INSIDIOUS (2011)

To gear up for seeing INSIDIOUS – CHAPTER 2, I decided to rewatch INSIDIOUS on Blu-Ray. This is my 3rd time seeing the movie and I think I actually liked it the best on this viewing. I remember seeing it in the theaters and liking it a lot but not going crazy for it like everyone else did.

This time I caught a few more of the nuances in the storytelling and allowed myself to embrace the things that didn’t work for me the first time instead of being turned off by them, which was mostly some of the execution of the final act.

Other than that my biggest complaint was that it was PG-13 because I generally prefer my horror with a capital “R.”  But that is not a reason to fault this movie as it does a great job with the characters and the scares without going overboard. And in this current genre trend of character driven horror (which I love as it’s the type of horror that I’m drawn to and write myself), INSIDIOUS is a worthy production and deserves praise.

I still prefer the harder edged SINISTER which really got under my skin and this year’s THE CONJURING, which I feel is one of the best horror films of the last decade.

I am optimistic about INSIDIOUS – CHAPTER 2 and will of course share my thoughts as soon as I see it. I’d like to hear what you have to say as well.
